Wow @acorsin made a fascinating point: the question of open access for scholarly journals is really one for the Global North. Places such as Latin America include scholarly societies that make their journals publicly available. #TriangleSCI
— Dr. Robert Greene II (@robgreeneII) October 10, 2018
Although sensibly implemented #openaccess does not need to be a risk to scholarly societies. The issue of implementation is absolutely critical. Indeed look forward to seeing the outcome of this discussion at @TriangleSCI
— Caroline Lynn Kamerlin 💉😷 🇬🇧🇸🇪🇮🇷 ☀️ 🇪🇺🦓 (@kamerlinlab) October 10, 2018
Totally agree! The issue for me is not whether one is for or against Plan S, but whether the implementation takes account of the risks voiced by researchers and others. Pointing out risks of a plan is not the same as being completely opposed to the plan!
— J Britt Holbrook (@jbrittholbrook) October 10, 2018
The theme of this year's #TriangleSCI is "overcoming risk" - so the discussions here are not just highlighting potential risks, but thinking about which ones are real and which are unwarranted fears, and seeking ways to overcome them both.
— Triangle Scholarly Communication Institute (@TriangleSCI) October 10, 2018
We agree. Building bridges between potential audiences and publics and the research that happens all over the world in various institutions is part of what we try to do as well.
